Mormon Women for Ethical Government is organized around clear principles — we are committed to preserving the rule of law, individual rights, and a citizenship grounded in mutual responsibility and care. Our loyalty is to the Constitution, not to any party or person.

American presidents have largely acknowledged the structural constraints on their political power. While many have tested the limits of executive authority, they have ultimately responded to robust checks from Congress and the judiciary. This is no longer consistently true. And in this critical moment, legitimate critiques of both executive overreach and congressional acquiescence are now deflected as partisan attacks, thereby shielding officials from accountability. If a defense of Constitutional principles feels partisan, this is an indictment of the party being critiqued, not the critic.

As a nonpartisan organization, we do not endorse parties or candidates, nor do we directly oppose them. But these self-imposed restrictions do not prohibit us from speaking out against unconstitutional actions or unethical behaviors by those in government. Rather, our clear commitment to principle compels us to respond, and our nonpartisanship allows us to do so from a perspective unclouded by the pursuit of political power.

The Constitution is the foundation for our government, and the principles contained therein have enabled the United States to enjoy unprecedented prosperity and peace. The Constitution establishes that people are the source of government power. If the president and members of Congress do not honor their oath to preserve and protect it, the women of MWEG will continue to speak out. We will defend the guardrails that, for more than two centuries, have protected citizens from individuals who seek to take power away from the people and aggregate it into the hands of a few.

More than ever, we need clear and independent voices that are willing to courageously defend our cherished national principles and values. We invite principled citizens and the leaders of civil society to speak out. In this moment we can work together to ensure “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
