Melanie Sanders-Smith

International Development Professional

Melanie Sanders-Smith has a 40-year career in international development. The majority of her work has been managing USAID projects and providing consulting services for them. Her work has spanned the full spectrum of development assistance, including global health. Melanie has also served in executive positions, most notably as vice president for international development at the Institute of International Education, where she built their development assistance program. She has held long-term assignments in Egypt, where she directed a large-scale USAID project, and in South Africa, where she served as a regional advisor for USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance. Melanie’s work has taken her to dozens of countries throughout Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Her community volunteer efforts have focused mainly on refugees and immigrants.
